BRING THE WOOD -- To hit an opponent with the violent intention to
remove them from there shoes.

BRING THE WOOD AWARD --  An honor given to someone
who shows football character at any given moment,
practice, game, season, etc...  It is given to those who
BRING THE WOOD and is associated with a
quality that also represents excellence.

PRIDE
I use to think pride was an emotion
(proud).  Being proud when good is
confidence, when bad is cockiness .
Real PRIDE is an action, like a man
who takes pride in his work.  It is an
action where you do something the
best it can be done and never settle
for anything less.  Continue this is life
Pappas and you will be
a success in everything!

FOCUS
The hardest thing
for a young athlete
to understand is
that becoming the
best in a sport
isn't in the fun
activities, like
scrimmaging.  It
doesnt just come
in the moment
either where you
walk out on the
field and are
amazing.  Being
great takes a lot of
hard work, hard
work that comes
during every off
season, every
practice, every little
drills.  It is in these
details that great
athletes are
made.
Championships
are born.  Nothing
makes me more
exicited as a
coach to see an
athlete
concentrating on a
drill and giving it
his best each and
every time.  This is
the true definition
of success--giving
it your best each
and every time at
each and every
event you
encounter.
Nice job Hancock.
Catherman
The 2 Man Block
I can't say I have ever
seen a block quite
like this one at
practice where he
literally threw one
man onto his back
into another man that
fell to his back.  I
heard Coach Dan
say at practice which
I also believe in is
that BLOCKING and
TACKLING are the
two most
fundamental parts to
being successful in
football.  Great
blocking is rare as it
is hard.  The media
doesn't keep stats or
show pictures of it.  It
is talked about only
by those who really
know the game.
Blockers take pride,
every touchdown is
yours.  Catherman
that was a great
block.  There is no
doubt you deserved
the wood and if I was
 ever lucky enough to
coach you a whole
season, I am sure
you'd have my
leadership award
somewhere in your
room.

Hustle
Success in life is
giving it everything
you have.  We
can't always
control the
situations we are
in or the way
nature has made.
There are certain
limits, such as
height, that are
beyond our
control.  There is
never any sense
in worrying about
things.  What we
can do is give it
our best in what
we can control --
our effort.  Every
man has control of
the ability to go all
out every play,
every moment.
That is what
hustling is, never
giving up, never
giving in.  In our
in-team
scrimmage
Hartwig was all
over the field.  I
seen him get
knocked down
and get up to
make the tackle.  I
was very
impressed.  It is
the amount we
hustle at all times
that determines
whether we
achieve success.
RILEY
Hard Hit
The whole idea
of the wood
comes from
hitting.  Bring
the wood,
laying lumber --
is all about
those hits that
make you
cringe when
you see them,
and makes the
opponent
shake and
tweak when you
lay one on.  My
favorite part of
football is
hitting. This is
the one sport
where violence
every play is
rewarded.  It
doesn't matter
size (look at
Riley), but a
combination of
will, technique
and opportunity.
 His hit was
amazing
because it
happened
behind the line
of scrimmage.
It was the true
essence and
worthy of the
WOOD.
